Joey Merlo

Joey is a Brooklyn-based writer whose recent work includes the "Brilliant/Highbrow" (NY Mag) off-Broadway engagement of On Set with Theda Bara starring David Greenspan and Midnight Coleslaw's Tales from Beyond The Closet "The years most twisted psychosexual melodrama. A bittersweet, yet biting, piece." (NYT).

Joey is a 2025 New York Foundation for The Arts Playwriting Fellow and has been called “one of the most original and exciting voices writing for the NY stage at the moment.” (Theatermania). He looks forward to being in residence at Woodward and is grateful for the opportunity.

At Woodward, Joey will work on an autobiographic piece about grief, masculinity and desire.
