Emmanuelle Zagoria

Emmanuelle is a Franco-Australian experimental music theatre maker whose work blends voice, physical theatre, electronic sound exploration and improvisation. She trained in physical theatre at the École Jacques Lecoq, in classical and jazz voice, composition, percussion, and musical theatre in conservatories and schools in Paris and Australia. She studied improvisation with Joelle Léandre and Meredith Monk. To delve fully into political music-theatre, she obtained a masters in political science from NY and Paris universities. Her compositions push form and genre, including commissions for the contemporary music ensemble Greywing alongside Jennifer, as well as for a 100 voice climate oratorio for the renowned composer and pianist Andy Emler.

She co-created La Mauvaise Voie, a political musical acclaimed in Paris and Avignon. Her current projects include What’s In the Handbag?, a feminist electro-music-theatre solo show performed in Australia, France and NY; Climate Changes, a song cycle for harp, cello, voice + satirical texts, premiered at NOoSphere Arts and AiOP: CARE in NY; and Out of Your Mind—a loop-synth-vocal FX-scientific text sample-experimental musical about the brain, premiered at The Brick Theatre’s New Works Festival (2025).

At Woodward, she will work on expanding Out of Your Mind, an experimental musical about the brain, into a full-length ensemble work for three performers, composing new music for three voices and electronics, and researching and integrating new scientific texts into the expanded text and score!
