Emmy J Favilla

Emmy is a writer and editor whose formative years were spent between Bushwick and Ridgewood. An NYU graduate, she is a print and digital media veteran with a career spanning 20-plus years, and currently works as managing editor at Forbes Vetted. In addition to her career as a lifestyle journalist and copy editor, Emmy is an essayist as well as the author of a book about the intersection of language and technology, "A World Without 'Whom.'" Her essays have been featured in publications including Catapult, Gloria, Pigeon Pages, BuzzFeed, Slate and more.

She lives with her husband and their menagerie of rescue pets in Ridgewood. Her weekends are largely spent volunteering with dogs and napping with her own.

At Woodward, she will be working on a memoir in essays largely focused on her relationship with animals in her community, and specifically the work she has done as a volunteer at New York City’s municipal animal shelter — and how the shelter is, in many ways, a microcosm of New York.
