Joseph Agboola

Joseph is a producer and storyteller working at the intersection of film, music, and cultural research. His practice is shaped by an interest in how communities form around sound, space, and shared experience, particularly within Black and diasporic cultures. Through narrative and research-forward work, he explores origin stories, memory, and the social environments that give rise to cultural movements long before they are formally recognized. He is especially interested in the intersections of race, religion, sexuality, and mental health, and in creating work that invites audiences to engage with and appreciate the cultural impact and ongoing relevance of the African diaspora.

Joseph recently completed his MFA in Producing at USC’s Peter Stark Producing Program, where he developed long-form and short-form projects alongside inquiry-driven creative work. His producing credits include a feature film selected for the Slamdance Film Festival, and his work spans independent narrative production as well as collaborative projects rooted in community and cultural preservation.

Often moving between film, archive, and sound, Joseph is interested in form, atmosphere, and rhythm as narrative tools. He approaches storytelling as both a creative and collective process, grounded in care, curiosity, and sustained presence. He is drawn to artistic environments that support experimentation, dialogue, and sustained artistic exchange.

At Woodward, Joseph will be developing and producing a slate of film and episodic projects, using the residency to deepen his writing, pursue funding and lab opportunities, and build the production frameworks needed to bring these stories to life.
