Kana Felix
Kana is a queer Filipina-American comedy writer, director, and story facilitator. Born in New York, she has lived all over the world as a third culture kid and adult, including Morocco, Kenya, Colombia, Italy, the UK, Los Angeles, and Chicago. Her exposure to many cultures and ways of living has deeply influenced her desire to tell stories with fully alive, multidimensional characters of diverse backgrounds.
Her stories often center women who are hungry to be alive while simultaneously grappling with existential crises that emerge in strange and funny ways.
Felix attended the Gallatin School of Individualized Study in New York City, where she designed her own concentration on spirituality and comedy—an approach that continues to inform her writing today. She also studied at the Second City Film School in Chicago. With a background in sketch and improv comedy, she has trained at UCB NY, the Magnet Theater NY, iO Chicago, and the Second City Chicago.
She has also participated in several notable emerging talent programs, including #Startwith8Hollywood, where she was mentored by writer/director Jason Woliner (Human Giant, Paul T. Goldman, Parks and Rec, WWDITS, Borat Subsequent Moviefilm); Unlock Her Potential, where she was mentored by Samantha Militante, director of current series at FX; and the Telluride Film Festival Student Symposium.
At Woodward, Kana will be working on a genre-bending rom-com/thriller feature screenplay titled Manic Pixie Dream Boy and beginning her first play.
