Vic Liu
Vic (they/she) is a multidisciplinary artist and writer in Brooklyn, NY. Their work spans themes of prison abolition, marginalized identity, and labor-intensive traditional craft.
Their books include Bang! Masturbation for All Genders and Abilities (Microcosm, Oct 2022) and The Warehouse: A Visual Primer on Mass Incarceration, co-written with James Kilgore (PM Press, July 2024). Both books use visual design to communicate complex information intuitively.
Their work has exhibited internationally at the Contextile Bienniale, and is currently being shown in a group show at the Textile Arts Center. Their work has been appeared in Hyperallergic, The Nation, The Creative Independent, The Philadelphia Inquirer, and Truthout.
Most recently their work regarding the prison industrial complex has culminated in The Warehouse, an art exhibition in collaboration with the Brooklyn Public Library and Mariame Kaba. During its three month duration, with over 37 public events and over 30,000 attendees, the exhibition asked visitors to envision a world beyond prisons. The exhibition has been lauded by Dr. Angela Davis.
At Woodward, Vic will be working on developing their future book.
