Joey Ajii

Joey is a Brooklyn-based artist and designer creating sculptural furniture, lighting, and objects that blur the boundaries between historical artifacts and contemporary design.

Drawing from Gothic, Baroque, and Islamic architecture, religious objects, and even primordial or prehistoric forms, Aji explores how archetypes from different eras can be digitally compressed and rearranged in pursuit of objects that feel familiar yet difficult to place. Simultaneously ancient and from a speculative future; objects that create a nostalgia for a time that never existed.

Through 3D printing, mold making, and hand-applied composite materials, Aji translates digitally constructed forms into physical objects with a sense of weight and permanence. His approach challenges conventional relationships between material, form, and function, creating pieces that exist somewhere between sculpture and everyday objects.

In 2026, Aji was named the winner of ICFF Emerging Designers Spotlight Live.

At Woodward, Joey will be researching, sketching and modeling his upcoming furniture collection centered around gothic and monolithic forms.
