Maryam Faridani
Maryam (b. Tehran) is one of many lost souls raised on the internet, doomed to scroll. Self-diagnosed through an online test with AHDD (Adversarial Hyper-Digital Dependency), she lacks concentration. Her art practice resembles hopping between apps on a phone—restless, layered, and nonlinear. Working across video, installation, and performance, she uses speculative narration to reflect on the overwhelming feeling of being online and how it affects our understanding of selfhood, society, and security.
Her work has been recognized through awards and residencies, including a, Individual Artists Program award (2026), Chicago Artists Coalition Residency (2024–26), a MacDowell Fellowship (2023), a Define American Fellowship (2020), and recognition as one of Chicago’s “Breakout Artists” (2022).
At Woodward, she will be preparing for forthcoming performance.
